Archimedes will be remembered when Aeschylus is forgotten because languages die and mathematical ideas do not. Immortality may be a silly word, but probably a mathematician has the best chance of whatever it may mean.
– GH Hardy (1877-1947) Mathematician
Just a quote that struck me while reading a BBC article about “Why is the number 1,729 hidden in Futurama episodes?“
1. Struck me on how may of the writers of Futurama (and Simpsons) are Mathematicians. Must be old news for some people but not for me. Doctors who graduated from top Universities, with Phd, switched professions and are now writing for an animated series.
On the other hand, I can understand. For someone whose specialty is Finance but decided to write children’s book instead, I have no regret.
2. Serves as an inspiration for another story.
